Balearic, the compilation album series and record label, begins a new chapter with the release of their first digital single, and they’ve started strong.
After much searching in dusty storage units they’ve managed to uncover three lost Balearic gems from a dream collaboration of chill out maestro Afterlife and living white island legend Lenny Ibizarre.
The tunes were recorded in a hazy spring session at Lenny’s finca near Benniras beach, back in 2003.
“It was a fun time and really creative” Afterlife recalls. “When we thought a track was finished we would drive down to Café del Mar and play at sunset to see how the tune played out.” Now after ten years these epic tracks from chill-out legends are finally getting the release they clearly deserve.
These are genuine, island-born Balearic grooves primed for beach bar play. Together these three tunes cover the whole spectrum of an Ibizan evening. We get to see both sides of the sunset before the main event: the chilled out Sa Trinxa-stylings of First Up perfectly captures the vibe of a lazy afternoon, contrasting beautifully with the mesmerising Deep House of How We Dance's evocation of the heady hours when dusk begins to deepen and the clubs come alive. Finally the single culminates in the moment of a transcendent sunset with the breath-taking ambient of the aptly named Transcendental, already tipped as a contender for sundown track of the summer.
